Dr. Walter Spink was one of the eminent scholars in the field of art history. He was a Professor Emeritus at Michigan University. He spent six decades of his life in understanding the Ajanta Caves of Aurangabad district, Maharashtra. It is said that he knew the caves so well, as if Ajanta has yielded its secrets to him willingly. This monograph is about his life, his adventures and his journey which tranformed him from a curious student to a stalwart.

Dr. Geri Malandra, the author of this monograph, is the Associate Director of Professional Development and Conference Services, Continuing Education and Extension at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. In addition to her work on the prehistory, history, languages and art of ancient South Asia, she has also pursued research on the prehistory and art of ancient Iran and on Sumerian and ancient Near Eastern economic texts.
